Abdessamad Lahib Dabaj presents his book of Andalusian recipes adapted for the Muslim population

15/05/2019 From 20:30

The Fundación Tres Culturas (Three Cultures Foundation) hosts the presentation of the recipe book Cocina y poesía andaluza para musulmanes (Andalusian cuisine and poetry for Muslims) by Moroccan Arabist Abdessamad Lahib Dabaj.

Abdessamad Lahib Dabaj is an Arabic Philosophy graduate from the University of Marrakech and doctor from the University of Granada. The author defines himself as an amateur chef and fan of Andalusia, the land where he has lived permanently since 1993.

Cocina y poesía andaluza para musulmanes is a 368-page book in colour which contains 128 recipes from the traditional Andalusian cuisine, 16 recipes from each Andalusian province, illustrated with high quality photographs that reveal the essence of easy, balanced, healthy dishes. Regarding the poetry, the book includes 80 short poems, 10 per province, by poets who were born in them or have direct links to them. It’s a journey through the flavours and the poetry from the beginnings of the Andalusí period to modern times. The author has linked traditional culinary language with refined poetic language as an expression of the Andalusian identity. The work has a clearly informative essence in which the author has tried to adapt the traditional recipes to the specific culinary rules of Muslim tradition.

As well as in Spanish, the book is available in English, French and Arabic.

The author will speak with Fátima Roldán Castro, Professor in Charge of the Arabic and Islamic Studies Department of the University of Seville.

This activity is included in the calendar of events for the Month of Cultural Diversity.
