Book presentation. ‘Arab Dawn. Arab youth and the demographic dividend they will bring’, written by PhD Bessma Momani

The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, the Embassy of Canada to Spain and the Royal Institute Elcano present next Thursday January 28th at 19.00h in the headquarters of the Foundation in Seville, the book: Arab Dawn. Arab youth and the demographic dividend they will bring written by PhD Bessma Momani from the University of Waterloo of Canada.

The main aim of this book is to challenge the negative assumptions surrounding the Middle East and to focus on the positive changes among the Arab youth, describing in details its hidden potential. The session will be conducted in English and it will be translation into Spanish provides to the assistants.

The author presents a generation more cosmopolitan, educated, entrepreneurial, creative and tolerant that the one of their parents. Dr. Momani will explain to us how the so called Arab Spring was an initial cry for help against dysfunctional politics and how future changes will require individual effort on the part of the youth as well as new policies targeted towards them.

Bessma Momani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She is also Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance and Innovation (CIGI), and has been Non-Resident Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. and visiting scholar at Georgetown University’s Mortara Center. She has authored and co-edited over eight books and over 60 scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters on the Middle East, Arab youth. IMF and the World Bank.
