Wool felt workshop with craftswoman Estela Melo, creator of the Ovelha Mãe brand
The Fundación Tres Culturas (Three Cultures Foundation) invites you to take part in a creative wool felt workshop given by craftswoman Estela Melo, one of the Portuguese artists currently on an artistic residency in Seville for the month of March within the CARPET project’s The Twist activities.
Places are limited, therefore those wishing to attend must sign up in advance via this link.
Estela, creator of the Ovelha Mãe brand, has developed a passion for working with wool that has led her to have her own herd of sheep in the rural area of Aveiro. Constantly striving to perfect her technique, curious and restless, this artist has taken part in many educational activities for CEARTE in Coimbre. Since 2004 she has dedicated herself to revealing the historical recreation as shown by the wool cycle in Portugal, Spain and Italy, teaching courses and workshops and frequently taking part as a specialist in talks relating to design and crafts in Portugal.
She often collaborates with Portuguese designers to develop signature pieces. She has also created various props for theatre companies and films. Her work has been displayed at a number of national and international shows.
She currently divides her work between her training in the textile art field, with particular focus on felt, weave and dye techniques, and developing pieces for her own brand, Ovelha Mãe.
The CARPET Project is coordinated by the Fundación Tres Culturas (Three Cultures Foundation) together with partners Creative Kernow in the UK, CEARTE in Portugal and APDN in Morocco. This project has financial support under the European Europa Creativa programme.
