Preparations underway for the 2020 edition of the ‘Tres Festival, voices of the Mediterranean’

The director of the Fundación Tres Culturas, José Manuel Cervera, and the head of the Fátima Mernissi library and the institution’s programmes to promote reading, Olga Cuadrado, held an initial meeting yesterday with the mayor of Granada, Luis Salvador, with an aim to laying the foundations for future collaborations, focusing particularly on the next edition of the ‘Tres Festival, voices of the Mediterranean’. This event, the third edition of which will take place from the 23rd to the 25th of April 2020 at the Federico García Lorca Centre, brings together the most relevant scribes of the Mediterranean shores every two years for an encounter which deals not only with literature but also with a variety of current affairs topics.

After just two editions, the Tres Festival has already become one of the benchmark literary events in the Mediterranean area, gathering authors of the likes of Tahar Ben Jelloun, Alessandro Baricco, Günter Wallraff, Nawal al-Saadawi, Mircea Cartarescu, Almudena Grances, Nir Baram, Zeina Abirached, Mathias Enard, Luis García Montero, Rutu Modan, Elias Sanbar, Mahi Binebine and Abdelá Taia among others.

The mayor of Granada expressed his commitment to a festival which brings “the best of literature from both sides of the water” to Granada and revealed his full willingness to involve the entire city in the encounter. Luis Salvador also praised the festival’s mutual understanding with the institution and noted the direct link between the event and the main end goal of making Granada the 2031 European Culture Capital.

The Tres Culturas (Three Cultures) director and head of the library had previously met with Sara Navarro, director of the Federico García Lorca Centre which will once again host the Tres Festival.
