OFFICIAL STATEMENT:

Taking into account the additional measures announced by the government and health authorities following the latest news regarding the Covid-19 epidemic, the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation has decided to temporarily suspend its activities to audiences in order to guarantee the health of visitors, users and workers of the institution, which is located in Seville.

This measure will take effect from Monday, 16 March, until further notice.

Two exceptional Andalusian monuments, the Real Alcázar of Seville and the Alhambra of Granada, contain the most important medieval tile compilations in Spain. Their geometric designs have many points in common, but also peculiarities that differentiate them.

The author has studied both compilations, focusing his interest on the tracing of their designs. Fruit of his research are two fundamental works published recently: La Alhambra con regla y compás (The Alhambra with ruler and compass) and El Real Alcázar de Sevilla con regla y compás (The Real Alcázar of Seville with ruler and compass). His extensive experience as a drawing teacher is apparent in the procedural nature of the works, in which he provides readers with precise instructions on drawing each of the motifs.

The conference will provide, with the support of a number of images, the main keys to these designs, typologies, similarities and differences.

Manuel Martínez Vela studied Fine Arts at the University of Seville. He is a Doctor in Fine Arts and has been a Drawing teacher at IES Padre Manjón secondary school and professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada.
