On Thursday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m., in our session of Al-Andalus Chair, we will have Manuel García Fernández, Professor of Medieval History and Director of the Department of Medieval History and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques of the Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Seville, and his lecture ‘The mythology of the frontier of Granada, XIII-XV.

During the 13th to 15th centuries the Christian Andalusia of the Guadalquivir valley was the extraordinary stage of a border with the ancient Nazari Kingdom of Granada as heir to the civilization of al-Andalus. A fortified line of supposed official separation between civilizations in theory antagonistic. And an area also of cultural osmosis of reciprocal influences. A frontier that would begin to be idealized and even mythified by large sectors of dominant Christian society as a noble and chivalrous form of life in Andalusia, precisely when Granada at the end of the fifteenth century already shows the first signs of its decline and political exhaustion.
