In 2014 the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation launched its own particular tribute to the Moroccan writer Mohamed Chukri. ‘For bread alone’ was the first book we read at ‘Luis Jimenez de Asúa’ Social Integration Centre. Since Mohamed Chukri’s most famous work has become a legend at this centre; we decided to read it again.

Copies of ‘For bread alone’ will be handed over.

Tuesday, 25th June, 2015*

10.00 – 13.00 h. Special session at the Three Cultures Foundation. Book Club members will have the chance to watch the documentary ‘Maldita Calle’ (Damned Street, Spain, 2003, 30 min.) in a private screening thanks to the collaboration of its director, Juan José Ponce. After the screening, we will discuss ‘For bread alone’ at the Three Cultures library.

‘Maldita Calle’ takes us on a tour around Tetouan and Tangier through the testimonies of children who are forced to live in the streets. Their misfortunes and dreams will unveil the entrails of a whole society which reminds us of Chukri’s childhood.
