Cycle : Dialogue with regard. Euro-Arab co-productions. 

In October, the Fondation Tres Culturas offers you a series of co-productions aimed at enhancing cultural cooperation between countries and continents, resulting in films, documentaries and short films of high quality and on a variety of themes.

France manages part of these co-productions, with French-speaking countries such as Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, thus ensuring the permanence and dissemination in the French language and offering young film-makers the opportunity to make their first films and positioning the country as a centre of Arab and African cinema.

This cycle is organised in collaboration with the Festival Latinarab and FCAT.

En attendant les hirondelles

Synopsis

While Karim Moussaoui's remarkable short film Les jours d'avant describes the "dark years" of Algeria from the point of view of adolescents, in his first long film, he describes three characters from different generations and living in different social situations, in order to explore the symptoms of a society incapable of overcoming the difficulties following the civil war. This three-part story, in which the victim of an aggression decides not to get involved, a young woman begins to hesitate as she leaves for another town to get married, and a doctor is confronted with a terrible secret from the past, progresses like a game in which the characters have the opportunity to take responsibility for their actions and their future. Honey and Old Cheese

Synopsis

Hassan has obtained a visa. He is preparing to leave the village of Tizi N'oucheg, in the heart of the mountains, to visit his father in Hollande. All the inhabitants know that he will soon be a foreigner. In a moving and sometimes comical tone, Hassan says goodbye to his friends, his country and his traditions.

La laine sur le dos.

Synopsis

The only African film in the running for the Palme d'Or in the short films category at the Cannes Film Festival, Law of Lamb was made in the same region as La guerre des étoiles. In an arid desert in Tunisia, an old man and his little boy are transporting sheep. All at once, they are immobilised by two policemen at the end of their rope, between fear and fear. Their intentions are not easy to understand. They discover a strange and unsettling atmosphere, difficult, between psychological struggle and black humour. The director, Lotfi Achour, has combined a perfectly conceived script with impeccable aesthetics for his first "western couscous".

Mollement, un samedi matin

One evening in Algeria, a young girl called Myassa is the victim of an attempted rape. Back home, once again, the plumbing is failing and she can't shower. Le lendemain, Myassa a deux priorités : porter plainte et trouver un plombier. But while she tries to fulfil her objectives, other difficulties arise before she finds herself in front of her abuser.

The last days of a town

Synopsis

Le Caire, city centre, 2009. Khalid, a 35-year-old film-maker, strives to make a film that captures the spirit of his town as his life slowly ebbs away. With the help of his friends, who send him photos of their lives in Beirut, Baghdad and Berlin, he finds the strength he needs to overcome the difficulties and enjoy the beauty of the city's recent days.

Demain dès l'aube

Synopsis

Tunisia, 14 January 2011. In the middle of the night, Ben Ali departs while Zeined, Alyssa and Houssine dominate the city on the roof of a building. A place where their three fates die after a great physical and moral tragedy. Demain dès l'aube, after Victor Hugo's poem, is not a film about the Tunisian revolution, but a portrait of the days that followed and will follow it, difficult and painful. This work, in no case black or white, in no case manicured, is as subtle as its characters: whether they are revolutionaries or officials, they are all described as beings capable of making mistakes without ever losing their human side. Beyond their convictions, they are all lost on the same path, and depend on a set of forces that they do not master. Kahina Boudarène

Mimosas : La voie de l'Atlas

Synopsis

A caravan accompanies an old cheikh to Sijilmassa. His last wish was to be buried with his ancestors but he dies in the middle of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. The caravanners, who feared the mountains, refused to transport his body. Only two small people accompanying them, Ahmed and Said, decide to transport the caravan to Sijilmassa. In a different, parallel and crazy world, Shakib is assigned to travel to the mountains. He has a well-defined mission: he must help the new caravanners to reach their destination. Shakib is also hesitating, this is his first mission.
