{"id":125236,"date":"2023-04-18T15:20:23","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T13:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tresculturas.org\/?post_type=noticias_fundacion&amp;p=125236"},"modified":"2023-04-18T15:20:23","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T13:20:23","slug":"letras-mediterraneas-tres-dias-para-disfrutar-de-la-literatura-de-calidad-con-sello-mediterraneo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tresculturas.org\/en\/letras-mediterraneas-tres-dias-para-disfrutar-de-la-literatura-de-calidad-con-sello-mediterraneo\/","title":{"rendered":"Mediterranean Letters', three days to enjoy quality literature with a Mediterranean stamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The literary conference 'Letras mediterr\u00e1neos', organised by the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas in Granada (at the headquarters of the Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies), from 13 to 15 April, was a great success due to the high quality of the authors who attended and the multiplicity of themes they addressed, \"showing the lights and shadows of this Mediterranean that we share and that gives us diversity\", as Concha de Santa Ana, director of Tres Culturas, pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>The conference opened on the 13th with a speech by the director of Tres Culturas, who stressed the importance of this \"an unmissable event for all lovers of good literature with a Mediterranean stamp\" organised in the Nasrid capital, a UNESCO City of Literature, the birthplace of authors who have filled pages and pages of world literature\".<\/p>\n<p>The director also highlighted the importance of the collaboration with the Euro-Arab Foundation, as did its executive secretary, Inmaculada Marrero, who added the good harmony between the two institutions, which are united by the promotion of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean, as well as multicultural and multi-religious coexistence. The rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda, who is closely linked to both foundations, insisted on the same point, which in her opinion appeal to the positive values represented by the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p>After the official opening, the public enjoyed a poetry recital by Aurora Luque, winner of the National Poetry Prize; the Moroccan Mohammed Bennis, one of the most outstanding representatives of current Arab poetry; and the multifaceted Lebanese author Joumana Haddad, with the splendid accompaniment of the Moroccan composer and performer Suhail Serghini, in a perfect combination of verse and music.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first authors to take the floor was the French novelist Anne Plantagenet, who presented her novel<em> Three days in Oran<\/em> (Siruela), an autobiographical work in which he explores his own roots to deal with issues such as uprooting, the pain of exile and the bitterness transmitted from father to son. He spoke with Rafael Ortega, lecturer in the Department of Semitic Studies at the University of Granada and deputy secretary of the Euro-Arab Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The day concluded with the intervention of Joan Benesiu, author of works such as <em>Gegants de gel<\/em> (2015) y <em>We will be Atlantis<\/em>The Spanish edition of the book was published last year by Acantilado, winner of the City of Barcelona Prize in 2020. Accompanied by the historian and writer Quico Maura, he explained the details of his book, in which he likes to cross the boundaries between genres, mixing fiction, autobiography and essay, with a profoundly pro-European discourse.<\/p>\n<p>The following morning, the conference moved to the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting in Granada, where the round table 'Translating the Mediterranean' was held, led by Malika Embarek, translator of authors such as Tahar Ben Jelloun and Leila Slimani and winner of the National Prize for the work of a translator; Ana Mar\u00eda Bejarano, a great specialist in translations of contemporary Hebrew literature; and Mohamed El Morabet, political scientist, writer and translator.<\/p>\n<p>Once again at the Euro-Arab Foundation, the meeting was resumed with Gabriela Adame, the most internationally renowned writer of Romanian origin.<em>\u0219<\/em>teanu, author of <em>A lost morning<\/em> (1983, Lumen, 2009, 2023) and <em>Temporary lives<\/em> (Acantilado, 2023), in which he explores the atmosphere of pressure, suspicion, betrayal and doubt that surrounds a pair of lovers in the midst of Nicolae Ceau\u0219escu's dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>Another of the day's big names was Z\u00fclf\u00fc Livaneli: writer, filmmaker, musician, composer and best-selling author in his country, where he is considered one of the most important cultural figures. At <em>Serenade for Nadia<\/em> (Galaxia de Gutemberg), the book he has presented in 'Letras mediterr\u00e1neas', uses a story of suspense, spies and fiction to rescue a true story, that of the Struma, a ship in which almost 800 Jews perished off the coast of Turkey when they were fleeing Nazism.<\/p>\n<p>The last of the sessions, on Saturday 15, began with Thomas Sparr, editor of the German publishing house Suhkramp, who presented his work <em>Grunewald in the East. German-Jewish Jerusalem <\/em>(Acantilado, 2023), in which he recreates every detail of the Rehavia neighbourhood, where Jewish intellectuals and philosophers who fled Nazism took refuge.<\/p>\n<p>Also very interesting was the conversation with the Goncourt Prize winner Philippe Claudel, who brought together a large audience to talk about his <em>German Fantasy<\/em> (Salamandra, 2023), five stories in which he reviews various stages of German history, the pain of wars and the weight of traumas.<\/p>\n<p>For her part, the multifaceted Lebanese writer and journalist Joumana Haddad described her beginnings as a writer, her creative process and her social commitment, as well as talking about her latest book translated into Spanish, <em>In search of the fire thieves<\/em> (Vaso roto), a collection of interviews conducted between 2003 and 2005 with some of the world's leading writers, including Paul Auster, Umberto Eco, Paulo Coelho, Jos\u00e9 Saramago, Antonio Tabucchi and Tahar Ben Jelloun.<\/p>\n<p>As a culmination, the conference offered a conversation with two great names on the current publishing scene: Sandra Ollo, editor and director of Acantilado and Quaderns Crema, and the writer Mauricio Wiesenthal, who delighted the audience as a great storyteller, stringing together stories and anecdotes that demonstrated his erudition. A cult author, a cosmopolitan defender of European humanism and responsible for titles such as <em>Book of requiems<\/em>, <em>Orient-Express, The snobbery of swallows<\/em> o <em>The right to dissent<\/em>His words of wisdom were the best way to round off this meeting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-125269\"
