Over the centuries, Seville has been the scene of numerous episodes related to heterodoxy that almost always ended with its protagonists in exile or executed on scaffolds or on the pyres of the Holy Office. One of the most shocking chapters of this dissident current was the discovery of the Erasmist focus in the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo and the clandestine trafficking of forbidden books in 16th century Seville. A risky adventure of Christian humanism that ended in tragedy, but which crystallised over the years in a fundamental contribution to the history of European culture: the Bear Bible, the first translation of the sacred books into Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n However, new heterodox continued to grow up in Seville, appearing in each century, contributing another version quite different from the city's official book. This gallery includes other heresies such as the \"alumbrados\" or misunderstood characters such as Blanco White or the Abate Marchena.
