The co-president of the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas and Advisor to H.M. the King of Morocco, Mr. Andr\u00e9 Azoulay, has just been awarded the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise, as published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
This distinction joins the long list of decorations, medals and honours he has received throughout his long career dedicated to the promotion of peace, coexistence between peoples, mutual respect and dialogue, such as the Medal of Andalusia for Solidarity and Concord just four years ago.<\/p>\n
On this occasion, and according to the BOE, the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise is awarded \"in view of the merits and circumstances of Mr Andr\u00e9 Azoulay\" and \"on the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and at the proposal of the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, following deliberation by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on 27 February 2024\".<\/p>\n
In this way, the co-president of Tres Culturas receives one of the most important decorations of the Spanish State, which distinguishes people who have excelled in the fields of culture, education, science, teaching or research. This is the case of personalities such as Nelson Mandela, Angela Merkel, Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez, Camilo Jos\u00e9 Cela, Luis Bu\u00f1uel, Federico Fellini, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein and Santiago Ram\u00f3n y Cajal, among others.<\/p>\n
Born in 1941 in the Moroccan city of Essaouira and a journalist by profession, he has been an advisor for economic and financial affairs to the King of Morocco since 1991. He has been involved in numerous movements and associations dedicated to helping the process of dialogue and reconciliation between Jews and Arabs. For years he has chaired the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures and was instrumental in the creation, 25 years ago, of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, of which he has been co-president ever since.<\/p>\n
