Driven by a society that had made the reform of this code the bulwark of its demands for years, the new law introduced essential changes in family law - especially in relation to the regulation of marriage - and was generally applauded as a significant advance in women's rights.<\/p>\n<p>Almost two decades after the adoption of the historic codex, Morocco's King Mohamed VI recently urged the Prime Minister to move forward with the drafting of a new Family Code within a maximum period of six months. The revised text - which would form the basis of a draft law to be subsequently voted on by parliament - would take on board amendments put forward by civil society, particularly women's rights organisations, and would provide a new impetus on the road to gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the round table <em>New developments in the Moroccan Family Code<\/em>organised by the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, aims to analyse the progress made in the implementation of this law over the last twenty years, as well as to examine the measures that are expected to be incorporated after this new revision.<\/p>\n<p>For this purpose, we will have two experts on the Moroccan Family Code, <strong>Gloria Esteban de la Rosa<\/strong>Professor of International Private Law at the University of Ja\u00e9n and <strong>Latifa Benkhair<\/strong>Professor of Law at Abdelmalek Essaadi University. The debate will be moderated by <strong>Emma Berenguer C\u00e1rceles<\/strong>Professor in the Department of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide.<\/p>\n<p><a
