Presentation of the book 'The Sages of Qurtuba', by Virginia Luque"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cordoba, the <em>Qur\u021buba<\/em> The city of al-Andalus is one of a group of cities whose importance in the history of the Mediterranean is obvious, as were Athens, Rome, Alexandria and Istanbul at different times. Its heyday is directly associated with the period when it was the metropolis of al-Andalus, from the mid-8th century AD until the disintegration of the caliphate in 1031.<\/p>\n<p>Cordoba, a base for scientists and poets, became a nucleus during this period which collected, preserved and knew how to radiate classical Greco-Roman and Eastern knowledge even after its decline, becoming a platform for the Renaissance.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Luque Gallegos, a researcher on the historical connections between Al-Andalus and the Arab world, member of the Network of Experts in Cultural Heritage and of the Spanish Society of Arab Studies, talks about this city and those who populated it (from the famous Wallada, or Ibn Hazm, or Maimonides, but also many others) in her book - with rigour, and at the same time in an entertaining way - about the historical connections between Al-Andalus and the Arab world.
