{"id":136862,"date":"2024-05-14T10:09:32","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T08:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tresculturas.org\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=136862"},"modified":"2024-05-14T10:09:32","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T08:09:32","slug":"conferencia-santa-maria-la-blanca-mezquita-sinagoga-e-iglesia-en-sevilla","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/tresculturas.org\/en\/actividad\/conferencia-santa-maria-la-blanca-mezquita-sinagoga-e-iglesia-en-sevilla\/","title":{"rendered":"Lecture 'Santa Mar\u00eda la Blanca: mosque, synagogue and church in Seville'."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Spanish Association of Hebrew and Jewish Studies (AEEHJ), in collaboration with the Foundation Three Cultures of the Mediterranean, organises the conference <strong>\"Santa Mar\u00eda la Blanca: mosque, synagogue and church in Seville\".<\/strong>This will be given by Mr. \u00d3scar Gil Delgado, lecturer at the University of Seville.<\/p>\n<p>This conference will take place on Tuesday 11 June at 18.00 h. at the headquarters of the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas del Mediterr\u00e1neo and will serve to inaugurate the conferences of the XXI Annual Symposium of the AEEHJ, which will be held at the Faculty of Humanities of the Campus of the Pablo Olavide University of Seville on 12 and 13 June.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium programme includes papers covering various areas of Hebrew and Jewish studies, language and literature, as well as historical and documentary studies, all from different periods and disciplines (biblical, rabbinical, medieval, Sephardic...). For more information about the symposium, please visit the AEEHJ website: <a href=\"https:\/\/aeehj.net\/\">https:\/\/aeehj.net\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About the inaugural conference<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Church of Santa Mar\u00eda la Blanca is located in the San Bartolom\u00e9 district of Seville, close to the Puerta de la Carne, one of the city's historic gates. The church attracts little attention from the outside, however, it has a very intense interior of great architectural and plastic interest, profusely decorated with exuberant plasterwork.<\/p>\n<p>The architecture conceals a fascinating past that goes back a thousand years in the history of the city. The studies and discoveries made in it, collected in the lecturer's doctoral thesis, made it possible to reveal its past as a mosque until 1248, as the main synagogue of the Jewish quarter of Seville until 1391, and to analyse the different stages that have taken place as a church up to the present day.<\/p>\n<p>These destinations are analysed in association with the corresponding stages of Islamic, Mudejar and Baroque art and architecture, which are so prevalent in Seville. The most important conclusion of the research consisted of verifying and documenting that in Santa Mar\u00eda la Blanca in Seville there coexist, while still standing, the remains and fabrics of
