Emilio Gonz\u00e1lez Ferr\u00edn, Arabist and professor of Arab and Islamic Thought at the University of Seville, will be on hand to talk to Enard. The event will take place on 5 October at 19:30 at the Foundation's headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Compass' is a journey and a declaration of love, a search for the other in ourselves and a reaching out to build a bridge between East and West, between yesterday and tomorrow, in this present so fragile for both worlds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mathias Enard<\/strong>\u00a0(Niort, France, 1972). After studying Arabic and Persian and spending long periods in the Middle East, he settled in Barcelona in 2000. A member of the editorial board of the magazine 'Inculte' in Paris, in 2005 he was elected writer-in-residence at the prestigious Villa Medici in Rome. He has taught Arabic at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Enard is the author of the novels 'La perfecci\u00f3n del Tiro' (Reverso, 2004), 'Remontando el Orinoco' (La Otra Orilla, 2006), 'El manual del perfecto terrorista' (La Otra Orilla, 2007), 'Zona' (La Otra Orilla, 2008), 'Habladles de batallas, de reyes y elefantes' (Literatura Random House, 2011), 'El alcohol y la nostalgia' (Literatura Random House, 2012) and 'Calle de los Ladrones' (Street of Thieves).<em>\u00a0<\/em>(Random House Literature', 2013). He has won several prizes, including the Prix de la Francophonie 2004, the Prix D\u00e9cembre, the Prix du Livre Inter, the Prix Goncourt des \u00c9tudiants in 2010 and the Prix Goncourt 2015 for 'Compass', his latest novel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emilio Gonz\u00e1lez Ferr\u00edn<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(Ciudad Real, 1965). An Arabist and Islamologist, he combines his university classes with an essay production that has earned him, among others, the Jovellanos international essay prize. He has been scientific director of the Al-Andalus Chair of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation since its inception and in 2012 he published his first novel belonging to the 'Cairo
