Revolution, Sectarianism and Jihad\u00a0<\/em>(Editorial Los Libros de la Catarata), by Professor Ignacio \u00c1lvarez-Ossorio, which will be presented by the director of the Al Andalus Chair of the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas and professor at the University of Seville, Emilio Gonz\u00e1lez Ferr\u00edn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The book reviews the current situation of a conflict that has been going on for more than five years.<\/strong>. The Syrian state is currently divided into zones according to who controls it; the text cites up to seven different powers in the territory, to which should be added the different commands within the same city, as in the well-known case of Aleppo.<\/p>\n<p>The book begins with the coming to power of Bashar al-Assad (president by accident, never better said, since his father had designated his brother, who died in a car accident, as his successor), and continues with the development of the protests that began in what was called the 'Arab Spring' and which in all countries reflected the same yearning: '...the Arab Spring is a time when the Arab Spring is a time to rethink the way we live and work'.<em>Al-shaab jurid yurid yasqut al-nizam<\/em>(the people want the regime to fall), which eventually turned into civil war and the subsequent eruption of Daesh or ISIS, which the author calls 'the jihadist storm'.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Admission is free with prior registration at the following address\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.es\/e\/entradas-presentacion-del-libro-siria-revolucion-sectarismo-y-yihad-31057045459\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About the author<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Ignacio \u00c1lvarez-Ossorio Alvari\u00f1o is Professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante and Coordinator of Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign Policy Observatory of the Fundaci\u00f3n Alternativas. He is also a researcher at the Inter-University Institute for Social Development and Peace (IUDESP) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Committee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
