Lecture &#039;In Praise of Al-Andalus by Ibn Hazm and Al-Shaqundi&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last session of this year's Al-Andalus Chair comes a few days earlier with this lecture by Matuesz Wilk, professor at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw (Poland), which aims to show a comparison between two classical figures in Al-Andalus.<\/p>\n<p>Praise of al-Andalus is almost a literary genre preceded by Latin praise of Hispania - for example, in Isidoro of Seville - and other more Castilianist praise after the capture of Granada. The curiosity lies in the comparison: all these books praising the land their authors are writing about describe the same people, customs, climates, but no one notices the continuity, the way in which Hispania-Al-Andalus-Castile are not opposing pairs but one and the same evolving reality.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Mateusz Wick (University of Warsaw) will analyse the contents of the two Andalusian books that stand out most in this praise of the land: that of Ibn Hazm (d.1066) and that of al-Shaqundi (d.1229).
