The souk in al-Andalus: the treaties of hisba'."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas is organising the next session of C\u00e1tedra al-Andalus for the month of October, and on this occasion we offer a general overview of the Andalusian market, with special emphasis on the <strong>\"arab \"hisba treaties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This event will take place on Thursday 30 October, at 19:00, at the Foundation's headquarters, with the lecture <strong><em>The souk in al-Andalus: the hisba treaties<\/em><\/strong>by Mar\u00eda Crego G\u00f3mez, PhD in Arabic Philology from the University of Granada.<\/p>\n<p>On the one hand, this session aims to offer a general overview of the Andalusian market, recalling its condition as a purely urban institution and its role in the articulation and administration of the life of the city. On the other hand, an approach to the medieval market in the Islamic sphere cannot be carried out without paying attention to the so-called <em>\"hisba treaties<\/em> The Arabian Peninsula, works of reference for all those who hold the position of almotac\u00e9n or zabazoque, in charge of overseeing the moral behaviour of the \".<em>the people of the souk\",<\/em> the control of weights and measures and the monitoring of fraud and deception.<\/p>\n<p>In the analysis of the <em>\"hisba treaties<\/em>\"We must distinguish at least two distinct stages. In the first phase, these works were written for a society, the Andalusian society, which was still in the process of Islamisation. The almotacenes then looked to jurisprudence for the legal references for the development of their work. <em>hisba,<\/em> which is not a legal discipline, with Islamic law.<\/p>\n<p>In a second phase, the <em>hisba <\/em>becomes a purely legal discipline within the framework of Islam. The almotacenes will be alfaqis and will be required to have legal expertise and knowledge in the context of a predominantly Muslim society.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the conference, the conference will take a look at the main <em>\"hisba treaties<\/em> These works are real treasures as they provide valuable information not only on the market in al-Andalus, but also on Andalusian society in a much broader sense: institutions, religious minorities, customs, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mar\u00eda Crego G\u00f3mez<\/strong>. PhD in Arabic Philology from the University of Granada (2003) and Specialist in Arabic-Spanish Translation from the Toledo School of Translators (2007), her main fields of study are the History and Historiography of al-Andalus. She works with medieval Arabic sources and has published studies on historical chronicles, Andalusian ulemas or sages, as well as on the influence of Andalusian Muslim intellectuals on Castilian culture.<\/p>\n<p>He completed his doctoral thesis at the School of Arab Studies in Granada (CSIC) on the <em>Muqtabis<\/em>She was a postdoctoral fellow at the \u00c9cole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines in Lyon with a project on the influence of Arabic historiography on Castilian chronicles. Since 2007 she has been a lecturer at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville on the Translation Degree.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a
