A style that was born in Oran (Algeria), sneaks through the cracks of sociolinguistic and cultural similarities across the Moroccan border of Oujda, and ends up becoming enormous internationally thanks to great performers of the genre like Cheb Khaled or Cheb Mami. A genre that, due to this international recognition, becomes uncomfortable for fundamentalism, causing the murders of some of its great protagonists and the exile of many others.<\/p>\n<p>Join us on a sonic journey through the history of Ra\u00ef, that great Maghrebi musical movement that managed to conquer the world. It's not just music: it's a sound map of the complex reality of North Africa, which was also a song of freedom and a fight against fundamentalism.<\/p>\n<p>Come and discover Ra\u00ef music and its unwavering defence of individual freedom. A music that is more than a rhythm; it is the sonic testament of those who chose to sing when silence was the norm.<\/p>\n<p>This is the proposal that <strong>Jos\u00e9 Carlos Cabrera<\/strong>, Arabist and director of the intercultural radio programme \u2018Ruta Mediterr\u00e1nea\u2019 (Radio Andaluc\u00eda Informaci\u00f3n), is doing for us for a new session of the series \u2018<strong>Mediterr\u00e1neo Sonoro: Music from the Maghreb and the Middle East. <\/strong>\u00a0The aim of this space is to focus on the music from these regions, with the intention of returning it to a more prominent position, and thereby encourage an approach to the culture in which it is produced, so that our audience \u2013 beyond specialists or musicians \u2013 has an entry point.<\/p>\n<p>This new session of Mediterr\u00e1neo Sonoro, with the title of <strong>\u2018Ra\u00ef: North Africa's Most International Music\u2019<\/strong>will take place on <strong>next Tuesday, 24th February, at 7:30 PM<\/strong>, at the headquarters of the Tres Culturas del Mediterr\u00e1neo Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Free entry upon registration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/mediterraneo-sonoro-el-rai-la-musica-mas-internacional-del-magreb-tickets-1983072975653?aff=oddtdtcreator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cContar los a\u00f1os 90 del siglo pasado a trav\u00e9s de la m\u00fasica s\u00f3lo se entiende si es a trav\u00e9s de este movimiento\u00a0musical juvenil.
