The social changes taking place in contemporary society - often made possible by technological advances - often involve young people as the main actors, whose role in public affairs has been increasing, moving from being mere observers to actively implementing their aspirations for change.<\/p>\n
This whole process is global, and in Muslim societies too, young people are questioning the prevailing models, not only at the political level, but also at the social and family levels.<\/p>\n
Young Muslims are looking for new ways to assert their identity, as they all do, but they are considering how to do so within - or without - the sometimes overly conservative parameters that govern their lives, where religion and tradition sometimes carry too much weight.<\/p>\n
Entering the adult world, integrating into society, being true to one's identity while aspiring to improve one's future and asserting oneself as an individual - as a young person and as a Muslim - is a complicated process at times.<\/p>\n
These questions are addressed in the films and documentaries that make up the cycle. Being young and Muslim<\/b>which the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas is offering for the month of September with the collaboration of the Fundaci\u00f3n Araguaney-Puente de Culturas. In this cycle we will be able to appreciate everything that brings us closer to other young people whose hopes we may share.<\/p>\n
The first film in the series, Rabat<\/i><\/b>raises these questions of identity in the context of emigration. Through the journey of a group of Moroccans from Amsterdam to Rabat, the hopes and fears of young immigrants are revealed.<\/p>\n
The documentary Shooting Muhammad<\/i><\/b>tells the complicated story of a young Palestinian who studies at an Israeli university in the occupied West Bank and is forced to live daily with other young people, but in this case, Israelis.<\/p>\n
The third instalment of the cycle, A modern Muslim<\/i><\/b>shows us the work of Puerto Rican rapper Hamza P\u00e9re and his group M-Team, who since 9\/11 have been striving for a deeper understanding of their faith while seeking common ground with other young people, Jews and Christians.<\/p>\n
