The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry Delegate in Charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad, and within the framework of the Alqantara 2017 programme, is organising the second part of the intensive course on Andalusian music, an initiative of the 'Month of Morocco', which will be led by the renowned musician Amin Chaachoo, director of the Tetouan-Asmir Centre for Musicological Research and the Conservation of Musical Heritage; director of the Orquesta Andalus\u00ed Al-Haiek and director of the Orquesta Andalus\u00ed de M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n

Andalusian music is the music created in al-Andalus between 711 and 1492. It is a heritage preserved today in the countries of the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia) that bears witness to an original, extremely rich system structured in an extraordinary lyrical modality.<\/p>\n

If in the first course, the aim was to train students in the different aspects of Andalusian music (history, concepts, music theory, aesthetics, improvisation, etc.), in the present course, the aim is to use everything they have learnt to move on to the next goal: musical interpretation and expression. The aim is to work on songs from the Andalusian heritage and to know how to interpret them in their three dimensions:<\/p>\n

- Traditional and authentic interpretation.<\/p>\n

- The ornamentation of the melodies in the traditional style.<\/p>\n

- The improvisation of new melodies in the Andalusian style, the so-called mawwals <\/em>y taqsims<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In this way, the training breaks down cultural barriers and allows the students to enter into the Andalusian culture, with all its traditional load typical of the Hispanic, multicultural and tolerant Middle Ages.<\/p>\n

The course will be open to 15 students, who will learn about the history of Andalusian music and the basic concepts of this music, as well as its structural components and modes, rhythm and Andalusian modal theory, as well as practical training through the performance of pieces and improvisation.<\/p>\n

As a culmination to this period of learning, the students of the course will offer a performance of some of the musical pieces they have worked on on Thursday 16 November at 20.30. On this occasion, there will also be touches of flamenco thanks to the participation of other local artists.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with the Delegate Ministry in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad, 15 scholarships will be offered to participate in this course free of charge. The selected students will not pay any tuition fees, as the total cost of the course is fully covered by the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation and the Moroccan Ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad.<\/p>\n

In order to participate in the selection of candidates and to access the scholarships, it will be indispensable to have a minimum knowledge of solf\u00e8ge, equivalent to the thematic content taught in the first course of solf\u00e8ge according to the Official Regulations of the Conservatories of Music in Spain.<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries of the scholarships will be selected in strict order of application from among those who meet the requirements and provide the documentation required in accordance with the call for applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n
