World premiere of 'Sounds without echo. Silent Words'."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again this year, the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation is organising a series of commemorative events on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, scheduled for 24 and 25 January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these features the premiere of 'Sonidos sin eco. Palabras calladas', a concert of fifteen songs rescued from the ruins of the ghettos and concentration camps of the Holocaust, written by prisoners who lived and died in them.  Through these songs, the musicians reflected the extremes of human behaviour: hatred and cruelty, but also courage, humanity and faith.<\/p>\n<p>This project, created by Juventudes Musicales de Bilbao under the direction of Bego\u00f1a Herv\u00e1s, with the collaboration of Juventudes Musicales de Sevilla, arose in the context of the relationship between the birth of this cultural movement in Europe in the midst of the Second World War, as a peaceful reaction to injustice.<\/p>\n<p>A didactic projection and a selection of original photographs show the characteristics of the camps and ghettos in which the songs were created (Sachsenhausen, Auschwitz, Theresienstadt, Kovno and Vilna), explaining the personal circumstances of each of their authors and the reasons why they were written.<\/p>\n<p>The songs, arranged for voice and piano by composer and pianist Arnold W. Collado, are performed by young musicians of the highest level of excellence, such as soprano Mercedes Gancedo and pianist Beatriz Miralles.
