As on previous occasions, and coinciding with the commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January, the Fundaci\u00f3n Tres Culturas is dedicating its January film programme to Israeli cinema. This season, organised in collaboration with the Israeli Embassy in Spain, offers the chance to see the most significant current Israeli films.<\/p>\n

On 12 January we screen the acclaimed film by Eliran Malka\u00a0The Dissidents,<\/em>\u00a0which tells the 'other' story - full of injustice, intrigue and power struggles - behind the founding of the Shas political party in the 1980s.<\/p>\n

We will continue to Viviane Amsalem's divorce<\/em>starring the late actress Ronit Elkabetz, one of Israel's most visionary filmmakers and actresses. In 2014, the film, which she starred in and co-directed with her brother Shlomi Elkabetz, won the Ophir Award for Best Film, Israel's equivalent of the Oscars. It is the third part of a trilogy in which Ronit Elkabetz brings to life a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage.<\/p>\n

We close the cycle with the musical documentary The wonderful kingdom of Papa Alaev<\/em>directed by the young filmmaker Tal Barda (1983, Israel) and the director Noam Pinchas (1974, Israel)<\/p>\n

Tal Barda, trained in Film and Television at the University of Tel Aviv and in Art History at the University of Toulouse, has directed and produced several documentaries, one of the most prominent being A Heartbeat Away<\/em> (2015) Noam Pinchas, trained in Film in Boston, has been creating documentaries based on funny and charismatic characters since 2006.<\/p>\n

All films will be screened in the original version with Spanish subtitles.<\/p>\n

Gett, the divorce of Viviane Amsalem.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Ronit Elkabetz, Shlomi Elkabetz. Israel, 2014, 115 min.<\/p>\n

Viviane Amsalem, who has been separated from her husband Elisha for years, wants to obtain a divorce so that she will not become a social outcast. There is no civil marriage in Israel yet and according to religious laws, only the husband can grant the divorce. However, Elisha refuses to do so. Viviane will have to fight for years before the Rabbinical Court to achieve what she considers a right.<\/p>\n
