Turkey through the camera: 'The Bandit'."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the historical crossroads between Eastern and Western cultures and home to great civilisations, Turkey continues to play an essential role as an intermediate space between the European and the Islamic.<\/p>\n<p>The history of Turkish cinema up to 1950 was sporadic and unknown. Somewhat later, the film industry experienced a golden age around the Istanbul-based production company Yesil\u00e7am, which between the 1950s and 1970s developed a large production of B-movies that competed with Hollywood blockbusters. The figures from these years made Turkey the fifth largest producer in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Today, filmmakers such as Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Can Ulkay, Deniz Gamze Erg\u00fcven portray the peculiarities of Turkish society and the production of TV series, a genre that has had a great impact on the international market, also reflects social problems and tensions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 26 October, 20.30 h.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The bandit.<\/em> <\/strong>Yavuz Turgul. Turkey, 1996, 121 min.<\/p>\n<p>When the bandit Baran is released from prison after 35 years, he receives nothing but bad news. On the one hand, his village has disappeared after a flood; on the other, he learns that he was betrayed by a friend of his in order to steal his girlfriend and go to Istanbul. He decides to go to Istanbul to get her back.
