International Day of the Roma People at the Fundación Tres Culturas

Details

  • Start: 7 April 2022
  • End: 8 April 2022

The International Roma Day is celebrated on 8 April. It commemorates the First World Roma/Gypsy World Congress, held in London in 1971, where the Roma flag and anthem were established.

The Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, through the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco, the Manuela Carrasco Foundation, the Pablo de Olavide University and the Tres Culturas Foundation are joining forces to highlight the great contribution that the Roma people have made and continue to make to culture by holding a conference to reflect on the Roma community and its expression in Flamenco Art on 7 and 8 April 2022 at the Tres Culturas Foundation.

At this conference, great flamenco figures such as the cantaor Pedro El Granaíno and the bailaoras Manuela Carrasco and María Guardia (Mariquilla), among others, will share a table.

The event will end with the reading of the Manifesto and the gypsy hymn 'Gelem Gelem' sung by Esperanza Fernández and Miguel Ángel Cortés on guitar.
