The Andalusian Studies Centre Foundation (CENTRA) on Wednesday 15 February, at 19.30h, the prize-giving ceremony of the 16th edition of the IMAGENERA Documentary Creation Competition on Andalusia. Once again, the headquarters of the Fundación Tres Culturas is the venue chosen for this event, which will recognise the work of the winners of the 2022 edition.
The jury of this last edition selected as winners, in the category of Audiovisual Documentary, the following films Last units from Hugo Cabezas and Alejandro Toroin the category of Documentary Feature Film; and Foam horse from Juanjo Ruedain the documentary short film category.
The event, hosted by the journalist José Luis LosaThe award ceremony will be attended by the award winners, authorities and representatives of the cultural and audiovisual sector. The awards ceremony will conclude with the screening of the winning feature film 'Last Units'.
The Jury for the category of Audiovisual Documentary was made up of Antonio Pérez Molero, winner of the IMAGENERA 2021 Award for the documentary 'La Flota de Indias'; the journalist and presenter of TVE, Elena Sánchez; the president of the Andalusian Film Academy, Marta Velasco; the producer and musician Álvaro Begines, and the producer of Antena 3, Andrea Barrionuevo.

The feature-length documentary Last units revolves around the shopkeepers of small traditional establishments who struggle day by day to keep their businesses open, overcoming numerous difficulties and surviving the dizzying transformations of city centres. The owners of century-old businesses in Seville such as Cuadros Venecia, Papelería Ferrer, Peluquería Melado and Cordonería Alba explain their lives, their problems and their future prospects in this plea against gentrification that "vindicates from a very human and close point of view trades that are disappearing".
At the discretion of the Jury, coordinated by the director of the Muestra de Cine Español Inédito de Jaén, Enrique IznaolaThe film "shows, from a local perspective, a representation of present, past and future Andalusia". The quality of the image, the coherence of the design, the music and the graphics were other of the elements valued that led to its election as the winner in its category.
Presented at the last edition of the Seville European Film Festival (SEFF), 'Últimas unidades', first feature-length documentary by Hugo Cabezas and Alejandro Toro (La Favorita Produce), was also selected for the last edition of the Ibero-American Festival of Huelva and the International Festival of Almería (FICAL).
The winning documentary short film Foam horse is intended as a reflection on memory in order to evoke an individual memory - that of the filmmaker himself. Juanjo Rueda-The film is a series of notes that I take over the course of a summer, which becomes familiar through conversations in a car that moves forward but ends up back where it began. "This film is a series of notes that I take over the course of a summer. The last one I will spend in the family home".
"A mixture of indie and poetry", in the Jury's opinion the film "has soul and feeling". "It is an intimate story, told in a poetic way through a very interesting narrative, with gaps and silences".
The film has received other awards, including the Asecan Julio Diamante Award for Best Short Film in the Official Section of Alcances, Cádiz Documentary Festival, and the Award for Best Short Film in the Official Section of the Nuevo Cine Andaluz de Casares Festival.
