The recent international energy context, marked by geopolitical tensions and uncertainty over the security of energy supply, has reinforced the European will to promote dialogue in the Mediterranean basin, as well as to accelerate cooperation initiatives and launch new projects.
As a result of the instability and events of the past year in Europe, Mediterranean countries face the challenge of supplying Europe with adequate energy supplies, creating a new space of opportunity to draw these countries into a sphere of trade, growth and peace. Harnessing the potential of greater economic integration between the southern shore of the Mediterranean and the European bloc could be a game-changer for energy and an energy transition away from Europe's heavy reliance on Russian supplies.
The conference 'Towards a new geopolitics and geoeconomics of energy in the Mediterranean', organised by the Fundación Tres Culturas and the Centre for the Global Common Good of the Francisco de Vitoria University, aims to offer an analysis of the implications and challenges of this profound upheaval in the energy systems of the Mediterranean countries. The conference will take place at the Foundation's headquarters on 16 March, from 10am to 2pm.
With the participation of various leading experts, the conference will address relevant issues such as sustainability and security in the Mediterranean from a European perspective, the generalisation of reverse flows in interconnections, a coordinated LNG purchasing policy and the provision of storage and regasification capacity for the benefit of all.
