Al-Andalus Chair. The Dual Sephardic Diaspora: between Zion and Sepharad

Details

  • Start: 27 October 2016
  • End: 28 October 2016

On 27 October, at 19:30, in our Al-Andalus Chair session, we will have the participation of David Wacks, professor of Spanish literature at the University of Oregon, USA.

Through its presentation, 'The double Sephardic diaspora: between Zion and Sepharad'.We will discuss the concept of diaspora and highlight a number of Sephardic authors whose work reflects this experience in literary form.

Throughout their history, the Sephardim have been a people in diaspora. Their literature dreams of two historical homelands: Zion, after the Babylonian exile, and Sepharad (Spain), after their expulsion from Spain in 1492. Its poets and chroniclers inhabit a literary space between these two worlds, between Hebrew and Spanish, between the world of the Bible and the Iberian Peninsula.

The conference will be held at the headquarters of the foundation, starting at 19.30 hours, with free admission with prior registration at the following address link.
