The programme ALQANTARA: bridges for dialogue and coexistence encompasses a series of cooperation actions arising from the strategic partnership developed between the Three Cultures Foundation and the Ministry in charge of Moroccan Communities Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs.
It is a project that stands as a permanent manifestation of the will of the Andalusian and Moroccan societies and governments, represented by the Three Cultures Foundation and the Ministry in charge of Moroccan Communities Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs, to establish a common roadmap to address the major challenges facing Mediterranean societies.
The ALQANTARA programme is made up of multiple activities structured around two large blocks of complementary action:
- A thematic block of analysis will address the major debates in today's Mediterranean area.
- An awareness-raising block, which will mainly target the younger generations, in order to show a positive image of our neighbouring societies.
In this context, and within the first of the aforementioned blocks, the first of the four major meetings that will take place in 2016 within the ALQANTARA Programme is framed. This is the TANMIA Forum. Cultural diversity, a space for development and resistance to radicalisationThe conference will focus on the interrelationship in this field between Spain and Andalusia and the three Maghreb countries (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco), an area that constitutes the gateway to the Mediterranean as a privileged place due to its enormous cultural and heritage wealth, as well as its interrelationship over many centuries of shared history.
This forum will feature two major conferences on common values on which to base coexistence and cooperation, and on cultural diversity as a source of wealth and social development. At the same time, panels of experts will be organised to deal with aspects such as cultural cooperation as a factor of understanding, the financial instruments available for this purpose, the role of universities in the democratisation of culture, the enhancement of heritage and the role of cultural tourism, and Andalusian historic centres and medinas as a living model of coexistence.
From a practical approach, specific cases and actions for the enhancement, promotion and training of cultural heritage will be presented (models of synergies in the territorial governance of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Andalusia for the management of this sector, models of use between new technologies and traditional practices, models of business services from the point of view of the cultural and creative industries and their impact on competitiveness, etc.).
Finally, the programme includes two evenings of Andalusian music, which exemplify artistic manifestations that unite the two shores. The first will focus on the figure of the Poet King Al Mutamid. In the second, which will be held in the Reales Alcázares in Seville, an orchestra made up of musicians from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia will perform a Nuba or musical scale in which the three historical musical schools of Al Andalus meet again. With this event we intend to make one of the most emblematic elements of this common heritage, the Arabo-Andalusian music, a tool for the contribution to rapprochement, tolerance and human development by launching a campaign for its inscription on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list.
