The Fundación Tres Culturas is organising, with the special collaboration of Casa Árabe, the International University of Andalusia and the General Council of the Judiciary, an international course on 'Independence of the Judiciary and Councils of Justice after the constitutional reforms in North Africa', which will take place from 10 to 13 July at the Tangiers headquarters of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University.
The Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, the universities of Jaén and Granada and the Centro de Estudios Sociales y Jurídicos Sur de Europa are also collaborating in this first edition.
The recent political and constitutional reforms taking place in some North African countries are raising the need to analyse the role that the judiciary can play in these democratic transitions. In this sense, the recent Spanish experience demonstrates the essential contribution of the judiciary in the consolidation phase of the democratic system.
This is the orientation of this training programme which, using different methodological approaches, aims to address a central issue in the construction of the Rule of Law: the independence of the judiciary and its institutional articulation in bodies that guarantee it and supervise the correct functioning of the Administration of Justice.
The examination from a dual perspective, both doctrinal and judicial 'strictu sensu', of the constitutional principle, as well as its institutional version in the form of the Councils of the Judiciary, are particularly necessary in states undergoing processes of political and constitutional transformation, such as Morocco and Tunisia.
This programme is aimed at Spanish and Moroccan judges, as well as Spanish and Moroccan professors, researchers, students and law graduates.
A certificate of achievement will be awarded to registered students who have attended all sessions.
