Tuesday Cinema. Screening of 'The Virgin, the Copts and I'.

Details

  • Start: 11 July 2017
  • End: 12 July 2017

The cinema of the Fundación Tres Culturas bids farewell until September with a season that will make us smile, even when dealing with serious subjects, through the eyes of characters from their countries (Italy, Egypt, Lebanon and France) who show their daily lives in four events where a sense of humour is the predominant note.

We would like to thank our audience for their loyalty and good reception to the programming of Martes de Cine, which makes us say goodbye to this half of the year with the feeling of having connected with the desires and tastes of the people who accompany us in each screening and with enthusiasm to continue offering a non-commercial cinema of quality, different, cosmopolitan and without frontiers.

11 July, 20.30h

THE VIRGIN, THE COPTS, AND ME (LA VIERGE, LES COPTES ET MOI)

Directed by Namir Abdel Messeeh. Egypt, 2012, 92 minutes.

Synopsis

Namir Abdel Messeeh, a filmmaker of Egyptian origin, sees a video of the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Egypt. His mother, like millions of Copts, sees the Virgin on the screen even though he sees nothing. Namir decides to return to Egypt to make a film about the apparitions, but encounters a host of obstacles. The result is a fictional documentary full of humour that depicts the family, generational, religious and cultural confrontation in the Egyptian diaspora.
