The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation presents the exhibition Parallel gazes. Iran-Spain: Women Photographers in the MirrorThe exhibition has been produced in collaboration with the Western Mediterranean Association, MED-OCC. In this way, both institutions are extending their journey by turning their gaze to Iran, a country that is very active in the field of contemporary visual arts.
The inauguration of this exhibition will take place on 11 May (from 8 p.m.) at the headquarters of the Fundación Tres Culturas, which opens its doors to this creative dialogue that brings together six pairs of female photographers from Spain and Iran to show the internal languages that bring these artists closer together.
Parallel views is a novel project, becoming the first exhibition of women photographers between Spain and Iran, thus raising the need to seek spaces for exchange and permanent debate that help to develop, within the sphere of contemporary trends, the latent cultural ties between Spain and the Middle East.
What is the enigmatic force that brings together the gaze of two women photographers from countries as far apart as Spain and Iran? What internal languages bring them closer through a specular reflection that mutually illuminates them? These are some of the questions posed by this exhibition through a journey that allows the viewer to discover how the twelve women photographers from the two countries, Spain and Iran, have been working together. Parallel Gazes They dazzle us, move us and provide us with an overwhelmingly beautiful exhibition, full of disturbing stories and visions.
The series shown in this exhibition, curated by Zara Fernández and Santiago del Olmo, come from very different periods and years in the careers of each of the photographers, who until their first meeting at the opening in Madrid had never seen each other before, and whose works dialogue through their internal languages, surprising us with their affinities, while at the same time revealing their affinities. Parallel Gazes. They are Soledad Córdoba and Shadi Gadirian; Cristina García Rodero and Hengameh Golestan; Amparo Garrido and Rana Javadi; Isabel Muñoz and Gohar Dashti; Mayte Vieta and Ghazaleh Hedayah; and María Zarazúa and Newsha Tavakolian.
The exhibition can be seen until 15 September at the Fundación Tres Culturas, with the exception of the period from 1 to 15 August (both inclusive), when the venue will be closed.
