Cinema in Morocco is currently making headlines, as the country is increasingly promoting this industry and placing the work of its filmmakers on the international stage. According to official figures from the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM), around 15 feature films and 50 shorts are produced annually.
Efforts are also being made to improve production circuits, audience attendance at screening venues and the fight against piracy, as well as boosting the development of film festivals, such as those in Marrakech, Khouribga, Tangier and Salé (Women's Film Festival). The Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival will be held shortly, which is growing in popularity each year and with which the Three Cultures Foundation is collaborating in this edition by presenting a performance by the Moroccan flamenco dancer Yacin Douaudi.
In this season we offer an overview of Moroccan film production, including rising talent, interesting themes and fresh visions.
