The last session of this year's Al-Andalus Chair comes a few days earlier with this lecture by Matuesz Wilk, professor at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw (Poland), which aims to show a comparison between two classical figures in Al-Andalus.
Praise of al-Andalus is almost a literary genre preceded by Latin praise of Hispania - for example, in Isidoro of Seville - and other more Castilianist praise after the capture of Granada. The curiosity lies in the comparison: all these books praising the land their authors are writing about describe the same people, customs, climates, but no one notices the continuity, the way in which Hispania-Al-Andalus-Castile are not opposing pairs but one and the same evolving reality.
Professor Mateusz Wick (University of Warsaw) will analyse the contents of the two Andalusian books that stand out most in this praise of the land: that of Ibn Hazm (d.1066) and that of al-Shaqundi (d.1229). The former stands out for the cultural rivalry between al-Andalus and the Near East, while the latter highlights the nostalgia of a cultural and political time that already heralds radical changes.
Free admission until full capacity is reached.
