The city of Lorca will host the I International Congress: The Art of Embroidery. History, Tradition and Horizons, an initiative of the University of Murcia and the City Council of Lorca is supported by the Region of Murcia. Among the more than two hundred proposals from different countries, the scientific committee has selected the project Hands-on of the Fundación Tres Culturas.
The project Hands-on was carried out in Seville at the beginning of 2024 thanks to the mobility grants of the Anna Lindh Foundation ALFin-MOTION and is an example of the active cooperation that the Foundation develops with the neighbouring country of Morocco. This project involved the embroidery school, Fadila El Gadi Foundation, which selected the student Nouhaila Mezrhab to carry out a stay of almost two months in Seville. During this period, Nouhaila developed a co-creation with the Sevillian collective Weavers of the Salt Quaywhile learning silk embroidery with the Women's Association Between shawls and silks of Espartinas, Seville.
The results of this project were exhibited in a group show that now travels to Alexandria, Egypt, where they will be presented at the headquarters of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
Participation in the congress in Lorca will allow this project to be shared with representatives from universities in Palermo, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Granada, Almería, Seville, among others, together with institutions from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Santa Casa Misericordia de Lisboa, the Spanish Committee of Art History and haute couture designers such as the Dutch designer Jan Taminiau.
The presentation will take place at the headquarters of the I International Congress: The Art of Embroidery. History, Tradition and Horizons, in the Murcian town of Lorca. More information about this event can be found on their website: https://congresobordadolorca.es/
