Muyeres. Marta Lallana. Spain, 2023, 70 min. Special Jury Prize.
A documentary exploration of the preservation of regional song in Asturias. Filmed in black and white, it focuses on old women in a rural area where oral traditions are in danger of extinction due to emigration and changing values. In the middle of the Asturian mountains of Somiedo is a place where time stands still, between the real and the fantastic. It is inhabited by women who preserve old songs, masked monsters that dance under the moon and numerous legends that are told around the fire. A well-known musician (Raül Refree) decides to leave everything behind and travel there to record all this legacy before it becomes extinct.
Inauguration of the cycle by Lorena García de Izarra, director of the Fundación Tres Culturas, Mohamed Bouissef Rekab, vice-president of the FCMT Foundation and head of the Hispanic area of the FCMT, and Leonardo Sardiña, head of the film department of Canal Sur.
