The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation joins, on Thursday 27 November, the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a date instituted by the United Nations General Assembly to give the international community, every 29 November, the opportunity to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine is still unresolved and that the Palestinians have not yet realised their inalienable rights.
This year's programme will consist of a screening of the documentary film Gaza-strophe, Palestinea French-Palestinian co-production directed by Samir Abdallah and Kheridine Mabrouk in 2010, which allows the viewer to discover the extent of the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Operation 'Cast Lead', the Israeli offensive that took place between December 2008 and January 2009 in Gaza.
Accompanied by human rights specialists, the filmmakers enter the Strip to become notaries of the nightmare suffered by Gazan citizens and collect dozens of testimonies, in which hope shines through.
Before the screening, Pablo Antonio Fernández-Sánchez, Professor of Public International Law and International Relations and EU Jean Monnet Chair, will debate with Mahmud Abdel Kader, a member of the Palestinian community living in Seville, on international law and the human rights situation in Gaza and the rest of Palestine in the light of the current context, following a new Israeli military operation and the recognition of the Palestinian state by several European countries.
