The Regional Minister of Culture and Sport and co-president of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia del Pozo, presented on 4 September in Granada the completion of the rehabilitation and adaptation for museum use of the Carmen de los Porcel, a heritage complex of nearly 20,000 square metres, located on the upper part of the Mauror hill in the monumental surroundings of the Alhambra, which will house the Amazigh Space, with donations from the Leïla Mezian Foundation.

At this event, the Councillor was accompanied by the co-president of the Three Cultures Foundation, the advisor to His Majesty the King of Morocco Mohamed VI, André Azoulay, as well as by Othman and Dounia Benjelloun, husband and daughter, respectively, of Dr. Leïla Mezian, an internationally renowned figure for her commitment to the preservation of heritage and the defence of cultural diversity, education and social welfare who passed away in July 2024, and whose foundation is going to take over the museographic design of the aforementioned space for months.

Also present were numerous members of the Board of Trustees of the Three Cultures Foundation (who had held their meeting the day before in the capital of Granada) and part of the team of this institution, who were able to visit the facilities of the future museum space, which will open next March. The aim of the museum will be to show the imprint of Amazigh culture in al-Andalus, with special emphasis on the decisive role played by the Zirid dynasty in the founding of the city and in its configuration as the capital of the independent taifa of Granada.

In her speech (which can be consulted in full in the attached file), Patricia del Pozo highlighted the links between this initiative and Three Cultures, pointing out that "this is the project of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, a common history that we must value precisely as a great tool for dialogue, to promote dialogue and coexistence between the different cultures and religions of the Mediterranean; because we have it in our blood".
