Twenty years of a musical bridge between Andalusia and Morocco
For two decades, the Junta de Andalucía -through the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo- has been accompanying the Essaouira's Atlantic Andalusia FestivalThis meeting celebrates the shared musical memory between the two shores and turns the former Mogador into an epicentre of coexistence, dialogue and creation.
The Atlantic medina of Essaouira, a city of festivals and a crossroads of cultures, hosts concerts, forums and exhibitions every autumn that highlight the common legacy of Jews, Muslims and Christians and the living kinship between Andalusian music and flamenco.
For the Three Cultures Foundation, this long-term collaboration responds to a public mission: to promote projects that strengthen the ties between Andalusia and Morocco, make their shared history visible and promote respect and diversity through the arts.
Since 2003, Andalusian and Moroccan creators have participated in mixed programmes and colloquiums that highlight the Andalusian heritage and its dialogue with contemporary flamenco, consolidating an international reference of interculturality.
In its twentieth editionThe Festival of the Atlantic Andalusias underlines the two-decade-long link between Andalusia and Morocco with the presence of the best flamenco ambassadors of the Junta de Andalucía: the Andalusian Flamenco Balletunder the artistic direction by Patricia Guerrero (Premio Nacional de Danza 2021), who will be presenting Blessed Land on Saturday 1 November, on the large Salle Al Massira stage. Conceived and directed by Guerrero, the show weaves roots and contemporaneity - with direction and choreography by Patricia Guerrero and music by Jesús Rodríguez and José Luis Medina, with the presence of the song "Tierra Bendita" by Dani de Morón - to deploy a large cast of dance, song and guitar that breathes the living conversation between Andalusian heritage and today's flamenco. Thus, from the Fundación Tres Culturas we celebrate this round anniversary reaffirming the city of Essaouira as an international reference of interculturality.
