The Board of Trustees of the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo, which met this afternoon in Seville, has elected Mar Ahumada Sánchez as the new managing director of this institution.

This appointment follows the resignation of the former director, Lorena García de Izarra, who a few days ago informed the Foundation's co-presidents, André Azoulay, advisor to His Majesty the King of Morocco, and Patricia del Pozo, Andalusian Minister of Culture and Sport, as well as the Foundation's team, that she wished to embark on a new professional adventure.

As happened with García de Izarra, Mar Ahumada assumes the direction of Tres Culturas after having been a member of its Board of Trustees for some time, specifically during her time as Director General for the Coordination of Migration Policies of the Junta de Andalucía, a position she held between February 2019 and June 2022.

For this reason, the new director is very familiar with the aims of the Fundación Tres Culturas, its strategic lines and its areas of work, as well as showing a special sensitivity towards all areas related to cultural diversity and social inclusion.

Moreover, it comes at a very sweet moment for this institution, which has just been designated by UNESCO as a Category 2 Centre and faces 2026 with important and exciting challenges, including the complete refurbishment of its headquarters, the former Pavilion of Morocco at Expo'92 and currently the Hassan II Pavilion.

In this sense, Mar Ahumada has indicated that she is very happy for this new stage and has thanked the members of the Board of Trustees, and especially the two co-presidents, for the trust placed in her to lead a leading institution in cultural diplomacy in the Mediterranean area.

Born in 1976, Ahumada holds a degree in Law from the University of Seville and has been practising law for more than 15 years, providing legal advice and legal assistance in civil, labour and contentious-administrative matters, as well as being a member of the free legal aid service.

Master's Degree in Banking Management and Financial Markets from the Cajasol Business School, from 2015 until her appointment to the Andalusian Government in 2019, she worked as legal advisor to the Andalusian Parliament. After leaving her position as Director General of Migration Policy Coordination, in September 2023 she was appointed Secretary General of the Andalusian Audiovisual Council. Until her appointment at Tres Culturas, she was Area Director in the Cabinet of the Regional Ministry of Health, Presidency and Emergencies.
