On 20 November, International Children's Rights Day, the Fundación Tres Culturas has scheduled two sessions (at 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon) of the shadow play The Sultan's invitationby the Soldenoche teatro company.
In this extraordinary story, the Sultan poses a riddle that prompts the guests to find a way to overcome hunger and frustration. After the performance, the puppeteer-puppeteer, the shadow puppeteer, proposes to the children attending the show to try to solve the problem by experimenting with real ladles with very long handles; this is a challenge that will be repeated performance after performance.
In this way, the company is committed to making those attending the performance embody, for a moment, these diners. After a few moments of doubt, they are presented with a choice: to share and take on the challenges collectively.
The show is aimed at children from the age of 8 and was premiered at the XXXVII Feria Internacional del Títere de Sevilla on 27 May 2017.
This theatre company was created in 2006 by Fernanda Cáceres and Damiana Puglia Padilla, who carry out activities using shadow theatre as a pedagogical tool in educational and social settings. Since 2011 they have been collaborating with the Federation of Roma Associations of Extremadura, giving workshops with Roma students. They give theatrical workshops on gender issues in collaboration with women's associations in rural areas and with groups at risk of social exclusion.
