Presentation of the work 'La cuenta atrás' (Debate).
Wednesday, 9 April 2014. 7 p.m.
Three Cultures Foundation.
The American professor and journalist Alan Weisman presents his latest work published in Spain at Tres Culturas, The countdown (published by Debate). With The world without us, a bestseller, Weisman imagined the planet Earth regenerating itself after the disappearance of humans. In this latest work, the journalist tackles what, in his opinion, will be the greatest problem facing human beings in the coming years: the vertiginous growth of the world's population and the problems arising from the lack of resources, the overheating of the atmosphere and the alterations of the oceans. To discuss these issues, he will talk to the journalist José María Montero, director of the Canal Sur Tv programme Protected Space.
Wiesman has travelled the globe to talk to people living under different political systems, and to find out how people of different nationalities, cultures and religions live and what they think. He wants to know in order to be able to give answers to the questions that, according to all experts, are the most important and also the most difficult to answer.
