  • Start: 5 October 2017
  • End: 7 October 2017

The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation is participating in the International Congress 'Mysticism in the Maghreb and Gharb al-Andalus', organised by the Al Idrisi Foundation for historical, archaeological and architectural research, from 5 to 9 October.

As part of the awareness-raising activities within the framework of the Alqantara programme (sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs), the Fundación Tres Culturas is collaborating in the holding of this congress, which will be held in Seville and Aljezur (Portugal), as a continuation of the meeting in Morocco that took place last March.

This edition pays tribute to the researchers Rafael Manzano, Fernando Fernández and José María Cabeza for their important work on Andalusian heritage and Maghrebi culture. Throughout the different sessions, experts in fields such as archaeology, Andalusian architecture and history will address topics as varied as the mystical expressions present in the Alcázar of Seville and the mystical experience of Saint Teresa.

In addition to the various round tables, the congress participants will take part in guided tours of several of the city's heritage sites, as well as the headquarters of the Three Cultures Foundation, the Hassan II Pavilion, a magnificent example of contemporary Moroccan architecture, decorated with the many traditional craft techniques that characterise its unmistakable style.

The official opening of the congress will take place on Thursday 5 October at the Ateneo de Sevilla, at 10.30 a.m.
