UNESCO pays tribute to the victims of the Holocaust every year on 27 January, the date commemorating the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Soviet troops in 1945.
The planned activities are intended to refer to the human dignity and worth of all people, as well as their right to live without discrimination and enjoy equal protection under the law, a right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Holocaust involved the extermination of nearly two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population and remains one of the most painful reminders of the international community's failure to protect this population.

20:30h. Candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
