A native of Casablanca, Khansa Batma is often described as Morocco's 'first lady of rock'.
As well as being a leading figure in Moroccan rock music and the only female rock artist in Morocco, she is heiress to a large Moroccan musical family. Self-taught with an exceptional voice, she began her studies at the Casablanca Conservatory at the age of nine, and embarked on the music scene in 2001 with her first album entitled "Sharq wa Gharb" featuring Moroccan folk songs with arrangements of European instruments and World Heritage songs with Moroccan rhythms.
In 2003, he released his second album "Ala Abwab El Sahra" or (At the Gates of the Desert), a collection of songs in which he describes the journey of a lost soul from southern Spain to Sudan and North Africa. His third album, "The Dark Album", was a huge hit with young people. Batma's songs combine Arabic and Moroccan rhythms combined with rock.
