Tomás Alcoverro is the correspondent for La Vanguardia in the Middle East since 1970, making him the doyen of his class. Based in Beirut, he has been an eyewitness to the turmoil in the troubled region. He has lived through its wars and met its leaders, all of which he has chronicled in more than 8,000 articles for his newspaper. He has been awarded the Encomienda de Isabel la Católica and the Creu de Sant Jordi, and has won the Godó, Gaziel, Ortega y Gasset, Vázquez Montalbán and Cirilo Rodríguez journalism prizes.
