The Fundación Tres Culturas is collaborating in the fourteenth edition of Hay Festival Segovia from 19 to 22 September, which will focus on the future of Europe and the power of fiction to change the way we think.
To talk about identity, the Fundación Tres Culturas, with the support of the AECID, has invited the Catalan writer born in Morocco Najat El Hachmi who will talk with the Moroccan journalist and sociologist Sanaa El Aji on the concept of "Islamic identity", a reality present on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar that to some extent curbs individual freedoms, upholds patriarchal norms and, above all, imposes certain behaviours and attire on women.
Thanks to Tres Culturas and Casa Árabe, with the collaboration of Libros del Asteroide, Hay Festival Segovia will be attended by the Iraqi writer and scriptwriter Ahmed Saadawiwho will present his work, recently published in Spanish, Frankenstein in Baghdad (2013; Libros del Asteroide, 2019), for which he has received awards such as the International Arab Narrative Prize (2014) and the Grand Prix de L'Imaginaire (2017) and was a finalist for the Man Booker International Prize (2018). Saadawi was also selected in 2010 as one of the thirty-nine best young Arab writers included in Beirut39.
