The Al-Andalus Chair continues for another month with a session on the almunias of Al-Andalus. For this session, we are moving to the Buhaira civic centre, one of the city's most prominent Neo-Mudéjar pavilions.
The existence of these estates dates back to ancient times and is a part of all Mediterranean civilisations. Through this session, the speakers will explain to us that for centuries these buildings were, in addition to centres of agricultural production, places for relaxation and the display of power, many of them featuring pavilions or palatial buildings adjacent to the irrigation pools, which served both for watering the crops and for leisure.
The session is led by the Doctors in Archaeology Magdalena Valor Piechotta and Alejandro Jiménez Hernández, members of the University of Seville. Both are part of a group of 43 researchers who have contributed a set of 24 research papers, brought together under the title 'Almunias. Las fincas de las élites en el Occidente islámico: poder, solaz y producción'.
The conference is taking place at the La Buhaira Civic Centre.
To attend the conference, it is necessary to register.
