The traditional image of the relations between the Christian kingdoms and al-Andalus during the Middle Ages is marked by the sign of war. From this perspective, we are usually presented with an almost permanent conflict in which the dividing lines between the opposing parties were determined by the confessionality of the adversaries. However, over the course of eight centuries of relations, it is possible to observe the existence of a good number of alliances and agreements between political powers of one or the other sign, so that the essential religious-based antagonism often disappeared for the sake of pragmatism and common interest.
The conference will be given by Francisco Garcia Fitz, an expert in the history of medieval warfare and in the analysis of relations between Christians and Muslims in the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages. He is the author of a dozen books and more than a hundred articles and book chapters on these subjects.
To attend the conference, it is necessary to book an invitation.
