In 1995, the Barcelona Euro-Mediterranean Foreign Affairs Conference launched an ambitious programme of cooperation between the countries of the European Union and those on the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean, in order to create an area of stability and peace, shared progress and dialogue between peoples and cultures.

25 years after that initiative, we at Tres Culturas want to evaluate the issue to assess where more persevering action is required and where good progress is being made and examples of good practice can be drawn from.

Based on the debate at five round tables on issues affecting migration, women's empowerment, the labour market and youth, education and research, and sustainable development, the aim is to contribute to making the Mediterranean an area of stability, progress and fruitful dialogue.

This activity, subsidised by the Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, forms part of the various activities it carries out for the study, analysis and implementation of Spanish foreign policy priorities.

The second of these roundtables will be devoted to labour markets and young people and will feature Esmat Elsayed, co-founder of Young Mediterranean Voices, who will talk with Gemma Aubarell Solduga, associate professor at the School of Communication and International Relations at Blanquerna and associate researcher at GRITIM-Pompeu Fabra University.
